Summer is in full swing in Sacramento and Granite Bay, and many men and women find themselves shying away from revealing swimwear and missing out on the fun at the beach or pool. If you’re unhappy with your body shape this summer, it’s time to plan ahead and ensure you’re comfortable and happy with your appearance next year. The Plastic Surgery Center offers tummy tuck, liposuction, and other procedures to help you feel more at home in your skin and wardrobe.
What Is Abdominoplasty?
Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, addresses sagging abdominal skin left over after weight loss or pregnancy. The plastic surgery surgically excises the loose skin tissue and residual fat and tightens abdominal muscles. Women often struggle with weakened or separated muscles after childbearing, and men may experience similar concerns with weight gain. Tummy tuck repositions and trims these muscles for a smoother, firmer, and flatter midsection. Abdominoplasty can remove stretch marks located in the lower abdomen within the excess skin tissue. The incision line is concealed beneath the underwear line, above the pubic hairline, and around the navel.
Mini abdominoplasty, or mini tummy tuck, only focuses on loose skin in the lower abdomen. This surgical approach tightens weakened muscle below the belly button and requires one incision above the pubic hairline about the length of a cesarean section scar.
Tummy tuck combined with liposuction (lipo-abdominoplasty) can eliminate stubborn fat and upper abdominal fullness.
How Does Liposuction Work?
Liposuction is a fat removal procedure, not a weight loss solution. It’s best for men and women who are close to their goal weight and have failed to achieve their body goals with diet and exercise alone. Liposuction, or lipoplasty, permanently removes adipocytes (fat cells) from troublesome areas and can be used for virtually any body area, from your face to your ankles.
One of our board-certified plastic surgeons inserts a cannula (hollow tube) through a small incision and disrupts the fatty tissues in the treated area. The unwanted fat is suctioned out of the body with a syringe or surgical vacuum. You should have good skin elasticity and muscle tone in the treated area to avoid loose skin tissue; otherwise, a lift procedure may be necessary to remove sagging skin.
Reveal Your Slimmer, Firmer Body Shape Next Summer
The initial healing period for tummy tuck and liposuction is around six to eight weeks, but residual swelling can take several months to dissipate and reveal your final results. The incision lines need time to heal and will fade significantly in the first year after plastic surgery. You can enjoy your new body shape in time for the next summer season and be proud to show off your smooth stomach at the beach or pool.
